5 Concerts I must see before I die!

Bob Dylan- Because he’s probably going to beat me to the dying part. And he’s still touring at 70 years old! I’ve heard these days the shows aren’t much to write home about but I couldn’t stand myself if I passed on a chance to experience such a vital piece of music history in the flesh.

Dave Matthews Band- Because it’s Dave man! I’ve been jamming to DMB for over a decade and have yet to see them live. I feel both embarrassed and ashamed of this fact, but it’s true. The second they come within striking distance I’ll be there front and center! I hate having to wait, but It’s a touch difficult to finance cross country DMB road trips on musician wages.

Jamie Cullum- Why? Because he is one of the most sickeningly talented musicians that I have ever seen! His piano skills are out of this world. If he isn’t blowing your mind with killer jazz lines he’s climbing in the piano and beating the crap out of it. I bought his live DVD recently and I can’t stop watching it. Everyone, put down this paper check out his cover of Rihanna’s tune “Don’t Stop The Music,” it will blow your mind.

Tommy Emmanuel- Another disgustingly talented guy. He does things with a guitar that barely seem possible. Walking bass lines with chords and melodies dancing together over driving rhythms that he beats on the top and sides of his guitar. Oh, not to mention the lightning fast runs he throws in for good measure. No loops or camera tricks, just pure skill. He makes it all looks so effortless. I missed him last time he was in Jacksonville and I regret it every day. It won’t happen again.

Los Lonely Boys- I ended up with a live DVD of these guys when I was a teenager and it influences my electric guitar playing to this day. These guys are a power trio to the extreme. Three brothers playing “Texican Rock-n-Roll” as they call it, and they’ve been doing it together since they were kids! The guitarist is possessed by the ghost of Stevie Ray Vaughan and the drummer is named Ringo, seriously. How can you go wrong with that? I can’t wait to catch them in our neck of the woods.
